A Short History: Peterbilt of Norfolk
As the 20th Century was ending, the operators of several Peterbilt dealerships in the region saw a great business potential in northeastern Nebraska. Norfolk is home to a variety of major industries that operate large highway fleets to transport their products. Also, the Norfolk area is home base for quite a few trucking companies. Plus, Highway 81 and Highway 275 are popular routes for commercial trucks. Based upon these factors, the parent company began by opening a small Peterbilt parts store in Norfolk in 2000.
Initially, the company leased an existing 1,600-square-foot store at 1018 Monroe Avenue. The volume of parts business grew rapidly. Meanwhile, many customers expressed the need for factory-trained mechanics to repair and maintain their vehicles. When three bays became available in the parts building in the summer of 2005, truck maintenance and repair services were added.
As business continued to grow, a new building was needed. Construction began in late 2007. The Peterbilt of Norfolk staff opened the doors Monday, Dec. 8, 2008 of the new 18,000-square-foot service center. The $2 million state-of-the-art facility was constructed on a 5.5-acre site along Highway 81 at Monroe Avenue, just south of the viaduct.
This larger and state-of-the-art service center features 10 service bays, which will greatly increase our efficiency and capabilities. More truck parts and accessories for all makes will be available in the expanded 4,000-square-foot retail parts store and warehouse in the new building.
The dealership's newest service is the sales of new and used commercial trucks. Peterbilt of Norfolk is now an authorized full-service Peterbilt dealership. A full line of new heavy-duty and medium-duty Peterbilt trucks, along with used commercial vehicles, are available.
This fine new facility will allow the staff to better serve the needs of the transportation industry in this area. We plan to offer the best trucks, the best parts and the best service in northeast Nebraska, while maintaining competitive prices.
The Norfolk location is one of four dealerships in the region owned by Sioux City Truck Sales (SCTS). Founded in 1954 and still family-owned, SCTS also operates full-service Peterbilt dealerships in Sioux City, Des Moines and Council Bluffs-Omaha.
